How Important Is It That The Poultry I Consume Is Exposed To Grass?

This is the crop of one of our turkeys on processing day. This is how much grass they prefer to consume on a daily basis.

Grass acts as a nutritional bank for poultry to subsidize for any vitamins and minerals that their feed is lacking - especially vitamins C, E, magnesium, iron, and phosphorous. Grazing on pasture also provides them a source of fiber, which aids in their digestion and offers medicinal protection against respiratory ailments. Poultry grazed on grass tend to be healthier and more active than their confinement-housed counterparts.

As the poultry rotates through our pastures, they are providing us with natural fertilizer, eliminating our need to apply chemical fertilizers; eating the greenery our horses leave behind, eliminating the need for chemical herbicides; and eating bugs, eliminating the need for chemical pesticides. When the food we eat is healthier, we are also healthier! When we don't have to apply chemicals, the native plants and pollinators are healthier! When you buy from a local farmer and eliminate the carbon emissions from trucking and feed lot production, the environment is healthier! Support your local grass farmers today!

Warmly,

-Shari
